situation

by losinger construction sa, mühlemann + partner was charged with the development of a project for vaucher manufacture fleurier sa. the conversion and extension of the existing production building has to be done in the first stage, in the second stage a representative administration building has to be realised, which also contains show studios for visitors. a master plan has to be generated for the whole area.

the site is located between the rail road track and the bottom of a mountain. a considerable part is situated in the residential area.

solution

to achieve maximal expansion on the available site two additional production buildings are projected, which both are connected by a tower with the existing building. therein are traffic areas for persons and goods. the building services' distribution is effected by the horizontally running roof system. by the connecting towers the production buildings are also aligned with the new administration building. this is marking the access to the premises and shall appear as the company's three dimensional business card. Accordingly a cultivated surrounding area is designated with an extensive planting. visitors cross a bridge over a pond to get to the main entrance.

on all floors the rectangular production buildings are clear of limiting columns or any other fix installations. thereby production processes can be flexibly adapted to changing conditions by the company at any time.

to the mountain side a housing development is scheduled. here topographical circumstances are used to realise houses in a modern form of earth architecture. the houses' north sides are built into the slope wherewith an optimal weather screen and energy efficiency is achieved. to the south the residential houses are fully glazed. these façades are also to be used for the absorbtion of sun energy. as both the administration and the production buildings will be greened their big volumes integrate ideally into the surroundings. therefore water retention is advanced as well. so, the residents' view isn't limited in any way.

the production buildings' architecture mirrors the high tech instruments, which come into operation and the work's precision which is done here. the eleptic administration building with the show studios stands for the elegance and the classiness of the products of which the most important parts still are made by specialists in the traditional manner.
