situation
a new swiss headquarters was to be planned for the sports equipment manufacturer puma on a small lot directly adjacent to the a1autobahn in oensingen. offices, showrooms, an outlet store with a small warehouse and a restaurant were to be integrated into the building. these different utilizations, requiring very specific interior architectural concepts, called for a variety of expert teams, making organization and coordination a challenge indeed. due to their experience in such complex matters, mühlemann + partner was chosen for the job of overall planning. puma also issued assignments for the interior design of the office facilities of puma switzerland, puma international/retail as well as the showrooms and cafeteria. All in all, the building was to provide 8’814 square meters of effective area, an indoor parking lot with 41 spaces, as well as additional parking spaces outside for employees, guests or customers.
solution
a diagonal alignment of
the building within the existing
industrial zone was chosen for optimal positioning of the slender,
elegant construction within its surroundings. The building not only
stands out as viewed from the village, but from the autobahn as well.
The idea was to have the building engage in a conversation with its
environment. the transparency of the building’s face
symbolizes puma's openness and honesty towards its partners and
clientele. the diagonally arranged double glass screens can already be
recognized from great distance on both sides of the autobahn, and glow
playfully at night in the corporate colours of the puma company.
the illumination can also create messages and ways of interaction that
go beyond conventional advertising methods . stylized images projected
by coloured beams can literally put the building in a whole new light.
the inside of the facility is also devoted to transparency. open space
offices are the rule. and glass walls are used to separate the few
closed offices. as all glass screens in the building are fitted with
blinds, these offices can also provide privacy when necessary.
the building is designed to be environmentally sustainable. a green
roof not only improves on insulation, but also protects the cladding
and leads to a higher degree of water retention. panels act as noise
protection and to store heat. thus, the energy of the sunlight is
effectively put to use.
