situation
directly at the beach of bormes les mimosas in southern france is the holiday village “camps du domaine”. currently the area with 97'300 m2 is not in use. the operators of that area mandated mühlemann + partner with the elaboration of a feasibility study. the study should show to use the whole terrain sustainably. core of this idea is to create a high-quality center with all-season offers for tourists, that can be created in an ecological way.
next to bungalows for guests, it was intended to create facilities like pools inside as well as outside, spa and a beauty center, shopping and eating possibilities, sports facilities and seminar rooms.
the solution
because the tourism industry has already left heavy marks at the coast line of southern france, mühlemann + partner developed a concept to obtain the landscape of bormes les mimosas.
this region was once famous for the vegetated sand dunes. in the project, mühlemann + partner picks up on the form of that landscape to integrate the 104 bungalows subtly into the sensible countryside. all bungalows are covered by earth and are vegetated. longitudinal-sided the glass obliterates the transition from the inside to the outside, what leads to a extraordinary living experience. the vegetated acclivity underlines the ambition of an environmentally compatible tourism solution. additionally, the quality of recovering is increasing. last but not least, with this project it is possible to keep on the last undestroyed landscapes of the region and to implement a sustainable usage for tourism.
the bungalows are grouped in a circle. a palm alley acts as a main traffic artery. the pools are located in the centre, as well as the sports facilities and the shopping and the restaurants. a kind of village center will be created.
next to sand dunes this region is famous for the wine yards. this element is also integrated into the “camps du domains”. grape-vines are also implemented into the complex. with respect for guests and environment the usage of any chemical protection means will be abdicated, growing wine be happen on a biological basis. for the revegetation of the complex mühlemann + partner was geared to use plants that are common for the region of southern france.
the project is balancing the elements of a sustainable tourism development with the demand to protect the countryside and environmental protection.
